Software Engineering Lead - Simulation and Visualization
2022 - present
  • Built and led a high-performing team of 2 to 7 software engineers, serving as hiring manager, growing the team, and mentoring engineers on testing, code quality, and development best practices.
  • Architected and implemented Platform 2’s core simulation framework from scratch, enabling the company’s first test flights, customer Pilot, and scaling to 50,000+ simulations in CI per day across 150 developers and 15+ teams.
  • Defined and executed a modular simulation strategy leveraging high-fidelity aerodynamic models for software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing; enabling end-to-end integration testing across a fragmented software ecosystem with diverse languages and toolchains, spanning flight software, cloud systems, and production hardware.
  • Led visualization efforts, extending a Rust-based in-house tool to the web and delivering critical features to support autonomy development, hardware testing, and flight operations, despite tight resource constraints.
  • Drove cultural change in the software organization by championing scale and automation; introducing new CI pipelines, merge gates, code coverage analysis, linting, and automated documentation workflows.
  • Balanced leadership and individual contributions, writing production software in Julia and Rust, spanning core simulation features, visualization, CI automation, flight software and physics models.
  • Managed external vendors and internal stakeholders across Legal, Finance, Compensation, and People teams, overseeing contracts, negotiating terms, and ensuring business alignment.
  • Communicated technical strategies and platform capabilities through design documents, company-wide presentations, and comprehensive documentation, including tutorials and API references.

Gazebo Technical Lead / Software Engineering Supervisor
2015 - 2022
  • Technical leadership for Gazebo team, with special focus on the framework’s entity component system core, GUI library, and ROS 2 integration, through 6 major releases.
  • Supervised and mentored 12+ engineers and interns across the Gazebo, ROS, and Infrastructure teams.
  • Represented Gazebo in the ROS 2 Technical Steering Committee (TSC).
  • Led the Gazebo Community, hosting monthly virtual meetings, posting key updates, answering technical questions, and delivering presentations to drive collaboration and knowledge sharing in the global community.
  • Development of competition environments and game mechanics, such as NASA’s Space Robotics Challenge and ServiceSim, the Service Robot Simulator. Using ROS, eRuby,
  • Development of Igniton Fuel, a platform hosting simulation assets online. Involved in the Angular 4+ web UI, as well as the C++ library and command line tool.
  • Development of CloudSim, a platform for running simulations on the cloud. Involved in full stack, from usability and front-end in Polymer to back-end in NodeJS and integration with AWS services.
